Police have named Jarred Harrell, 24, a person of interest in the abduction and murder case of a seven-year-old Florida girl. Somer Thompson was abducted in October 2009, while walking home from school with her older sister and twin brother. Somer's body was found in a Georgia landfill two days later.
Police have followed thousands of leads in the case but have not yet named any suspects. Clay County investigators and FBI agents are now searching a vacant house near the spot where Somer was last seen.
Harrell was recently charged with 29 counts of possession of child pornography, after his computer was turned over to police by his roommates. It contained a “large amout of child erotica and also child pornography,” court documents said. Police say the child pornography is unrelated to Somer's case, but won't comment further on the connection between Harrell and the girl.
Harrell was arrested Thursday in Meridian, Mississippi. His bond was set at $1 million.
