Our Featured Franchisee: Pastor Kent and Jodi Janz, Kidproof Canada® Central Alberta
Kent and Jodi Janz have a mission: to offer Kidproof child safety programs in every community in Central Alberta. “We want to have a Kidproof presence everywhere,” says Jodi. “There are so many rural areas and small towns in Alberta, and our goal is to reach every single one of them!”
Kent and Jodi were awarded their Kidproof franchise last October, and have worked hard to build their business in a few short months because they wanted to “give back” to the community. “It's been amazing to see how many kids aren't educated in this area,” says Kent. “We have seen what a need there is for this type of program. We're also community-oriented, and that motivated us. It was an opportunity to invest in our future but as a bonus, the Kidproof franchise comes with a great message.”
Kent and Jodi have both worked extensively with kids: Kent as a pastor and high school basketball coach, and Jodi as a school volunteer, librarian and playschool teacher. The Janz' also have three children of their own, who have all taken Kidproof child safety programs. “The kids in our classes have been awesome to work with,” says Jodi. “I wasn't sure what to expect, especially with the older kids because my experience is with younger children. But, it's been very positive and a lot of fun.”
One of the main reasons their Kidproof franchise is working so well? “We're a partnership,” says Kent, who was on the road with Jodi delivering Kidproof flyers on the day of the interview. “Jodi does the teaching, and I do the support work, the phoning, things like that.”
Sounds like their hard work is paying off! “The biggest reward for us has been the parents' response,” says Jodi. “Sometimes they watch the classes, and they are so thankful and appreciative that we've brought these programs to the community. They love that we're doing something that's helping kids.”
